Any new tool to cut and mask parts of an image is good news. Adobe’s current selection tools still feel clunky to me in spite of recent developments. They’ve just put out a paper detailing a new piece of software that intelligently clips images – no matter what background – in a matter of seconds.

The technique uses “deep convolutional encoder-decoder network” and a “small convolutional network,” whatever that means… The technology is still being tested and there’s no word as to whether or not we’ll see this in a future photoshop or after effects update. Let’s hope so though!
